Choose the folder you want to convert into a ZIP archive:
- Click to Select: Tap or click on the dashed upload area above. Your operating system's folder picker dialog will open — navigate to and select the entire folder you want to compress.
- Folder Selection (Not Files): Unlike regular file uploaders, this tool uses the webkitdirectory attribute which allows selecting a complete folder — not just individual files. All files and subfolders inside are automatically included.
- Browser Support: Works on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Brave (all Chromium-based browsers). Firefox also supports directory upload. Safari has limited support — use Chrome for best experience.
- What Gets Included: All files in the selected folder, all files in nested subfolders, and the complete folder path structure (e.g., "project/images/logo.png"). Empty folders without files are not included in the ZIP.
- Size Limit: Total combined size of all files must be under 1TB (1000GB). Individual files also capped at 1TB.
📋 Step 2: Review Your Folder Contents
After selecting a folder, you'll see a complete overview of what will be compressed:
- Folder Statistics: At the top, summary badges show: 📁 number of subfolders, 📄 total file count, and 📊 total combined size (in MB, GB, or TB).
- File List Preview: The first 50 files are displayed with: file name, full folder path (e.g., "Documents/Projects/Report.pdf"), and individual file size. If more than 50 files exist, a "... and X more files" message appears.
- Path Preservation: Each file shows its complete relative path within the folder. When extracted later, files will recreate this exact folder structure — so "Vacation/2024/beach.jpg" will be in the correct subfolder.
- Verify Contents: Review the list to confirm the correct folder was selected. If wrong, click "🗑️ Reset" and select again.
📝 Step 3: Name Your ZIP Archive (Optional)
Customize the output ZIP file name:
- A name input field appears with the default value "folder-archive". You can change this to anything descriptive — e.g., "project-backup", "client-files-2026", "website-assets", "photo-collection".
- The .zip extension is automatically added if you don't type it. So "my-folder" becomes "my-folder.zip" on download.
- Use meaningful names to easily identify archives later — especially if you create multiple ZIPs from different folders.
